Health information for over the festive period

As the festive period approaches, Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS) are encouraging people to use health services wisely during the bank holidays.

It is important to make sure you're as prepared as possible for the festive season.

You can do so by ensuring you have enough prescription medicine to last over the festive period.
Many pharmacies and GP surgeries will need up to seven days’ notice to issue a repeat prescription.
Please order any repeat prescriptions you need as early as possible. Don’t forget to pack your medication if visiting family and friends over Christmas too.

Another way to be ready is by making sure you have all you need for those little bugs, cuts, and scrapes.
Keep common remedies for coughs, colds, and headaches at home, as well as items such as sticking plasters and bandages.

Worried about your or a loved one's mental health?

This Christmas, make sure you know what to do if you or a loved one has a mental health crisis.
Adults aged 18 and over can speak to a mental health professional anytime, day or night, by calling NHS 111 and selecting the option for mental health.
Under 18s can call 0800 995 1000 for urgent mental health support.

Do you need health advice over the festive period?
NHS 111 is available on the phone and online 24/7 at 111.nhs.uk and will help you right away.

If you need urgent care, they will book you in to be seen quickly and safely.

Please remember A&E is for serious injuries and life-threatening emergencies ONLY.

Feeling unwell over the festive period?
You're advised to visit your local pharmacist.
As qualified healthcare professionals, they can offer clinical advice and over-the-counter medicines for a range of minor illnesses, such as coughs, colds, sore throats, tummy trouble, and aches and pains.
Visit nhs.uk for local pharmacy opening times.
